Prospect Jonathan Raúl Delgado recently left Cuba and will seek to sign with an MLB organization, according to sources.
The switch-hitter and member of the last Cuba National U-15 team is currently in the Dominican Republic and is about to begin a new chapter in his young career.
It was in the Dominican Republic where Jonathan Raúl participated in March of this year with the national U-15 team in the Panamerican Championship, where the Cubans did not qualify for the World Cup in that category.
Delgado had a limited role due to being one of the youngest on the team, but he showcased his talent with an inside-the-park home run and by hitting from both sides of the plate.
In that tournament, he had several at-bats, and in one of them, he hit an inside-the-park home run.
He possesses an excellent material, with 6'3" tall and weighing 198 pounds. Defensively, he can master multiple positions, which is very important in modern baseball. He can play in the outfield, third base, and catcher.
From that Cuban U-15 team that participated in the Panamerican Championship, six players, including Jonathan, have already left the island.
The young talent hails from Sancti Spiritus and comes from a family of great baseball players who were part of the Cuban national team.
His grandfather is José Raúl Delgado, a catcher who played 20 seasons in the National Series and was part of the Cuban national team between 1989 and 1993. He also won the gold medal at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. His father, Yoanny Delgado, unfortunately, passed away in September 2021 after several days of battling COVID-19.
Yoanny was another great talent at a young age who couldn't solidify his place in the National Series. Jonathan's baseball DNA also includes family ties to his cousins, the Gurriel family.
Jonathan Raúl should continue progressing with more professional and specialized training in the Dominican Republic. He will be eligible to sign with a Major League organization starting on January 15, 2026.
The most important thing with this type of talent is that he have the opportunity and time to refine their tools. He has a remarkable swing that generates power and will continue to grow and perfect the athleticism of his body.
Delgado is now beginning a long journey. Neither his grandfather nor his father could sign with an MLB franchise. Now, the young prospect will try to navigate a very different path.
