Sources: Guillermo García arrives in the Dominican Republic to pursue MLB career
García, 24 years old, was a member of the Chunichi Dragons in the NPB from 2022 to 2023.
The Cuban baseball player Guillermo García arrived in the Dominican Republic in the last few hours, according to sources.
García was previously playing in the Frontier League with the Capitales of Quebec and took a flight from Canada to the Dominican Republic with the goal of signing with a Major League Baseball organization.
He is 24 years old and has experience in professional baseball in Japan, where he made his debut at the top level with the Chunichi Dragons in 2022.
From 2022 to 2023, he was under contract with the Chunichi Dragons in Japan. He spent two seasons in the Minor Leagues, batting .262 AVG with 1 HR and 8 RBI in 2022. In that same season, he got an opportunity with the first team at NPB, although he only had 9 at-bats in 2 games.
Guillermo is a natural first baseman with the ability to play left field. He is known as a contact hitter who can drive the ball to the opposite field and command the strike zone.

His experience with the Cuba National team has been extensive. He was a member in two U-23 World Cups (2021, 2022) and later in the Pre-World Qualifier of the same class in Nicaragua at the end of 2023.
Between June and September, Guillermo played in the Frontier League, an independent circuit, where he posted a slash line of .299/.381/.438 with 4 HR and 29 RBI in 39 games. In the games I observed, he comfortably handled fastballs between 94-96 mph, driving them to the opposite field.
García hails from Granma, the same province as stars like Yoenis Céspedes and Alfredo Despaigne. Additionally, he is related to Guillermo García Frías, a commander and general in the Cuban regime's army.
Guillermo García will now follow the same path as Yariel Rodríguez and Pedro Revilla, who were also with Chunichi and chose to go to Quisqueya in search of a professional contract. Yariel has already secured a multi-year deal with the Blue Jays, while Revilla is very close to showcasing his talent to MLB franchises.
Now, he will enter a preparation stage to seek a signing in the Dominican Republic and showcase his talent to MLB organizations. In my opinion, if García works on his physical conditioning and power at the plate, he has an excellent chance of achieving his goal of signing within the MLB system.
